Letter to my past self
Dear past self,
How are you? This is probably weird, hearing from your future self but please don’t be weirded out. It’s me!
Are you still worried about how your future will turn out? The truth is, it’s going to be harder than you ever imagined. You are going to go through hell and will hope for a different story but don’t be daunted, you’ll turn out alright.
You’ll fall in love. Kiss the wrong boys. Befriend and trust the wrong people. Drink too much wine. Friends will disappoint you. You are going to allow people to break your heart too many times. Make regrettable decisions. Your anxiety will make you feel like you’re constantly running out of time. You are going to feel alone in so many moments that you’ll lose count. You’ll want to disappear but you will strive for balance and will keep fighting even when you are exhausted. You won’t give up on yourself completely.
You have so much to figure out. It won’t be easy; there will be moments of joy, laughter, love, lots of frustrations, challenges and tears but keep persisting; I promise it’ll all be worth it. Those moments will make you stronger. Life is hard…life is also beautiful, then it’s hard again. So, give yourself a break every now and then; you deserve it. You are going to grow and thrive.
There are times you’ll be afraid of the future, but don’t worry. No one has it all figured out. No one is perfect and you don’t have to try so hard. Laugh, cry and love without holding back. Be spontaneous, go on those dates, say yes to life, continue to allow your true self to shine, continue to grow your relationship with God and most importantly, be true to yourself.
Finally, I want you to know that I am happy with where we are at currently. There are days you hit rock bottom and didn’t think you could make it but you managed just fine. You guarded yourself so much from others and were often afraid of being vulnerable but you have really blossomed over the years. You are growing into the woman you are meant to be. Thank you for staying strong and not letting anyone or anything put you down for too long. Thank you for all the mistakes you made, they guided me into making wiser decisions. They made me grow. I know it wasn’t easy but you managed to keep the faith.
You found your inner Mojo! I’m so proud of the person you’ve become.
Your future self.
